I'm sorry, but there is nothing badass about these horses. They can't sense radioactivity, so why should they react to it?

By the way, it is not true that humans can't survive there. It is illegal to live in the Chernobyl area, but there are a couple of people who refused to leave their homes. That's certainly a lot more badass than the horses.
